Exhausting Haiti's Forests
Although area farmers use terracing to try to hold back the soil, it is no match for erosion in this heavily deforested area in Seguin, Haiti. Carrots are one of the most widely planted crops in the region because they can produce two crops a year. This frequent disturbing of the soil encourages erosion in a region that has already been heavily deforested.
