Outside the San Salvador Cathedral, well-dressed parishioners pass by disabled beggars on the steps on their way to evening Mass. The poor in El Salvador and other similar countries around the world must rely on foreign assistance, often from the U.S., because they find their better-off countrymen unwilling to help, or even recognize that they exist.
